Sean haseyEach client arrives at my office with unique needs. Some clients are looking to treat a specific muscular or structural dysfunction or pain while others seek support for relaxation and better sleep. That’s where the art comes in—designing a treatment that helps clients with their individual goals.
Massage work requires good body mechanics, body awareness, and a keen ability to focus. In 2000, when I enrolled in massage school, I was building furniture, making sculpture, and painting—all of which required and tested similar skills. Having received massage, I recognized the benefits and wanted to learn more. In many ways, it was a natural progression from the physical work and spiritual exploration I had already been doing. I began my study at the Swedish Institute of Massage in New York City, and completed my initial training in 2002 at the Downeast School of Massage in Waldoboro, Maine. I received additional training in CranioSacral Therapy at the Upledger Institute in Massachusetts and studied with Taoist teacher, Mantak Chia, in New York. The work I learned with Mantak Chia is a powerful form of abdominal massage that helps to align and vitalize the visceral organs, musculature and connective tissues of the abdomen. In my role as a teacher, I aim to support knowledge of the human body especially as it pertains to the connection between mind, body, and spirit. In addition to the teaching I do as a therapist one-on-one, I have designed and led workshops for massage therapists and the public. My teaching experience includes hands-on technique, traditional Chinese medicine, chair massage, and deep tissue massage techniques. I am licensed by the State of Maine and insured by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). To see more examples of my visual art work, please visit www.seanhasey.com. |
Chrystina gastelumI approach every massage with curiosity and invite that of my clients as well. What's going on in your body? What would you like to change? I first to listen carefully to the client's needs and experience, do some visual and manual assessment, and then develop a plan of action with that in mind. It's a collaborative and iterative process.
Prior to becoming a licensed massage therapist, I worked in corporate sustainability in a variety of roles, most notably working with global corporations on reducing climate risk in their supply chains. I've also worked on farms, in challenge course facilitation, food systems advocacy and more. I am licensed by the State of Maine and insured by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). maxI began my training as an apprentice to Sean Hasey in his Portland office in 2014. My job is to give a great example of full body relaxation and to generally lounge around. When I'm not melting into the floor in the office, I enjoy my other job as chief ball and stick herder at the beach. If you'd rather I stay away from you, just ask. (P.S. I'm a dog)
